Reiki* and not the Reiki
This is the brief history of a solopreneur, excited and grateful for being the one to have proofread the first edition in 10 years of the Reiki manuals that I myself used for my training.
After launching Editing with Care, on 27 February 2020, with its first article explaining the name of the creature (Why Editing with Care?), one month passed until I wrote another article, the one on How I edit your texts.
Well, you will probably understand why I “disappeared” when I tell you that I was enraptured editing the second manual (Level 2 Reiki) of the Federación Española de Reiki…
… When you have begun, 11 years before, your Reiki training and from the level 1 until the Reiki master level you used those manuals for each course and degree.
… When after editing the Reiki Level 1 manual, the author video-records this 👉 testimonial.
… When 11 years after that starting point –on my personal growth path–, you are editing these manuals, the same ones you received as a student…
… this feels like a gift from the Universe ✨🙏🏼
Reiki* without article…
… 5 times I saw, in a newspaper article, ReiKi with the definite article (the) before it. This was not the first time I saw it written like this, therefore, I would like to specially address Reiki practitioners, and of course whoever might be interested:
📍 Reiki doesn’t have an article before it.
It is an energy practise named Reiki and not “the Reiki”.
The definite article “the” is used to specify which one we are referring to, for example: The Reiki practised in the West or the traditional Japanese Reiki… in these cases the article is needed, but no when you talk about Reiki in general.
By the way, the same goes for Spanish language-> no article before Reiki, unless a specific Reiki is mentioned.
Pamela Miles, an International Reiki Master from New York –who it was a pleasure to meet during a talk in London, 2014–, told me:
“Agreed, there is no place for the Reiki in my writing.”
«Estoy de acuerdo, en mi redacción no hay cabida para “el” Reiki».
Lastly, in case you have realised and are wondering why I tend to write ReiKi with two capital letters, Rei-Ki, the reason is the word is formed by two ideograms, i.e. two graphic signs representing two concepts. This is something personal which I came up with spontaneously years ago, but the common use is written only with the first letter in capital: Reiki.
As you can see, the content of this webpage reflects two passions:
- The careful use of words.
- The beneficial power of energy therapies and practises (focused on personal growth).
… and so the passion I work with to contribute to the success of your project, your mission✨
🙏🏼 Thanks for being there and spend part of your precious time reading this.
P.S.: You can comment, suggest, ask… anything that comes up on this, here I am to read them with care and dedication 💜.
